Miscellany of music and literature in Westport
Singer songwriter Tony Reidy is among the performers at an evening in aid of SVP in Westport.
Westport Civic Trust is celebrating Christmas 2025 with a miscellany of music and literature in the The Clock Tavern, Westport next Sunday, December 14. All are welcome to attend and while it is a free event, all donations received on the evening will go to the local SVP charity.
Tony Reidy is a singer songwriter, well-known in Westport and beyond with at least six albums. Last year at a concert in the Town Hall, 25 musicians sang his songs and played his music in his honour. As Liamy McNally says, “Tony writes of love, heartbreak, family, destitution and the hand one is dealt in life.” Áine Ryan is an award-winning journalist based in Westport, familiar to many readers of The Mayo News and Irish Times. She has written regularly about the offshore islands, particularly Clare Island. She presents two readings, one about her first dramatic voyage to the island over the festive period in 1980 and the other about Christmases of yore on the Clew Bay outpost.
Mary Madec is a prize-winning poet originally from Kilmeena, near Westport. She has published three highly-acclaimed books of poetry, and currently teaches poetry and cultural studies for Villanova University in Ireland. She lives in Westport.
The evening of music and literature gets underway at 8pm.
