Luisne Art Project, an arts and disability project based in County Mayo, has announced that the Minister for Social Protection and Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht Dara Calleary will officially launch its new exhibition and accompanying book at a special event in The Courtyard Gallery at the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life, Turlough Park, on Friday, November 13th, at 5pm.
Luisne Art Project is a successful, nationally recognised arts programme for people with disabilities based in Ballinrobe. For 21 years, the project has delivered sustained, high-quality artistic engagement for participants attending the Crann Mór Centre.
Minister Calleary has also contributed an article to the book, reflecting on the transformative power of art, the importance of disability arts and the role of creativity in building inclusive communities.
In his contribution, Minister Calleary writes: “I believe that the arts, disability, and creativity play a vital role in building inclusive, healthy, and vibrant communities by empowering individuals, challenging social barriers, and enriching collective culture.”
Minister Calleary also highlights the significance of providing artists with opportunities to share their work with the public, noting:
“When someone sees their work displayed in a gallery it’s more than just validation; it’s a reminder of their capability and talent. It’s proof that they have something meaningful to contribute to the world.”

These words capture the spirit of Luisne Art Project, which places artistic expression and the individual artist at the heart of its work.
Through its commitment to the arts and disability, Luisne Art Project provides opportunities for service users at Crann Mór, Ballinrobe to explore their creativity, develop their artistic skills. The project recognises that art is not only a means of creative expression but also a way to foster connections and ensure that diverse voices are seen, heard and valued.
The exhibition will give visitors an opportunity to experience the work of Luisne's artists and appreciate the many perspectives reflected in their creations. The accompanying book will provide a lasting record of the project's creative journey, bringing together artwork and reflections that celebrate the artists and their achievements.
The launch at the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life marks an important occasion for Luisne Art Project and offers an opportunity to recognise the artists whose work lies at the heart of the initiative, as well as the families, supporters and wider community who help make the project possible.
Members of the public, artists and arts organisations are warmly invited to attend this special celebration of art and community in County Mayo.
Luisne Art Project is supported by Western Care Association and UPSTART, an initiative of Mayo County Council’s Arts Service.
