Swinford Athletic Club 5k Autumn Series registration takes place at 7pm and the race starts at 7.30pm on Wednesday, September 13, in Midfield and on Wednesday, September 20, in Kiltimagh. All are welcome to run, walk or jog.
Active Retirement weekly meetings take place each Monday from 2 to 4pm in The Cultural Centre, Swinford with a cup of tea, cake and treats. Everyone over 55 years can join in the games, bingo or just a chat. New members are very welcome to try out this very friendly group.

Join Irish Folklife curator Tiernan Gaffney at the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar, for a special Culture Night talk at 6.30pm on Friday, September 22, exploring the life and folklore associated with St Gobnait, Patron Saint of Bees and Iron Workers. Learn about the miracles, places and museum objects associated with this interesting medieval saint and the folk history of bees in everyday life. Admission is free but booking is required. Swinford Active minds will host introductory classes to Tai Chi in Swinford Cultural Centre on Friday mornings for six weeks, commencing on September 15, from 11.30am to 12.30pm. Everyone welcome.
Michael Davitt CCE (Swinford Comhaltas) members are looking forward to a busy Autumn. The weekly classes are off to a good start on Saturdays and Tuesdays in Swinford NS and new pupils are always welcome. The next event is on Culture Night September 22 when Michael Davitt CCE will host a singing, storytelling and music evening in Coffee Doc from 7pm followed by a session. Feile na Samhna is not too far away either. There is a busy programme of events planned for Friday, October 27 to Monday, October 30.
The Humber Duathlon takes place in Swinford on Sunday, September 24, at 10am adjacent to the Robert McCallion GAA pitch. This duathlon will consist of a 3.5km run followed by 22km cycle and finish with a further 3.5km run. Both runs will take place off road on the outer perimeter of the park. On completion of the first run, the cycle will start on Park Road and from there proceed onto Kiltimagh Road/Meelick/Oldcastle/Laughtadurkan/Bohola/N5 /Kiltimagh Road/Park Rd. and back to the transition area where Run 2 will commence. This event is open to individuals and to relay teams of two.

The numbers drawn in the Swinford Community lotto held on September 4, were; 7, 8, 23 and 26. There was no jackpot winner. €70 vouchers were won by Linda O'Hara, Tullinacurra and Susan Lavin, Midfield; €35 each was won by John O'Hagan, Lislackagh and Tara Quinn, c/o Tara Café. The Jackpot is now €6,600.
Another cracking weekend of golf at Swinford Golf Club on September 2 and 3 as both gents and ladies competed in 18 Hole Stableford competitions.
In the Gents - Mulligan Cup 18 Hole Stableford John 'Sheets' Sheahan led the way with an impressive 40 pts, Pat O'Neill and Barry 'Goose' Durkan were right on his heels with 39 pts each.
In the Ladies - Betty Casserly Cup 18 Hole Stableford, Mary Horkan secured the top spot with 35 pts, Geraldine Turbitt second with 33 pts, and Ann Moore rounded out the top three with a commendable 32 pts.

The Mater Hospital Foundation is calling on companies, individuals and communities in Co. Mayo to take part in its new Go Pink campaign to help raise vital funds for breast cancer care in the Mater Public Hospital. Taking place on October 18, Go Pink is a new fundraising campaign that will support patients with breast cancer by investing funds where they are needed most in the hospital.
To coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, the Foundation is calling on people across the country to get on board by hosting their own Pink Party. Getting involved couldn't be easier. You can hold your event on October 18, or whatever date works best for you. The death occurred of James (Jimmy) Goldrick, Killasser, on Friday, August 18 last and his funeral took place in Killasser on Monday 21. He was the father of Martina Lyndon, Lower Treenduff and of Declan Goldrick, Churchpark. Sympathy is extended to their families..
The diocesan celebration of the Anointing of the Sick will take place in the St Nathy’s Cathedral on Sunday, September 17, at 4pm. This will be celebrated outside of Mass. All are welcome.
