An Olympian with Ballina and Lahardane roots will represent Team Ireland in the Olympic Games this evening.

Eric Favors, who grew up in New York, qualifies for Ireland through his Mayo grandmother, Margaret Kerr, who emigrated to Rockland County. 

The 27-year-old will compete in the shot put which will take place between August 2-3 - a sport in which he holds the Irish national record.

Working part-time in a school in Pennsylvania, Favors is currently coached by Dane Miller at Garage Strength, where he trains alongside a number of top throwers.

WHERE AND WHEN TO WATCH

Favors is scheduled to compete in the shot put (qualification round) at 7.10pm this evening (Friday, August 2). 

The 2024 Olympics is live on RTÉ throughout the Games in Paris.
