National double for rising Castlebar tennis stars

Paul Gavin, president of Castlebar Tennis Club, and head coach Garreth Barry, with Lauren Dunne and Eoghan Jennings who won the U16 girls and U18 boys singles titles at the Junior Lawn Tennis Championships of Ireland.
These are exciting times for Castlebar Tennis Club but in particular, for two of the club’s junior members who have been making waves on the national circuit. A wonderful night of celebration was held at the clubhouse to mark the significant achievements of Lauren Dunne and Eoghan Jennings who were both crowned Irish singles champions at the 2025 William Fry Junior Lawn Tennis Championships of Ireland which were held at Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club last month.
Lauren won the U16 girls singles title while not only did Eoghan Jennings claim the U18 boys singles crown but he added the U18 boys doubles title as well as finishing runner-up in the U18 mixed doubles.
It’s not very often that clubs outside of Dublin win national titles so for Castlebar Tennis Club to land two singles at the same championships is very significant and a massive reward for the hard work and dedication all year long of both Lauren and Eoghan. It is also recognition for the excellent work being done by the coaches at Castlebar Tennis Club, in particular head coach Garreth Barry, and the ongoing support by the parents and families of both players.
A special mention also goes to club president Paul Gavin who has always been a champion of all junior members, encouraging every step of the way.
Their future is looking particularly bright and there are big plans for Lauren and Eoghan over the coming year. Since her victory, Lauren has departed for Canada where she will be spending the next few months to train and play while Eoghan will be playing in next year’s Australian Open on the back of some big wins on the International Junior Tour this year, once of which was in the Cayman Islands.
