The Mayo U15s fell to back-to-back home defeats after coming up against a classy Treaty United outfit in Umbro Park last Saturday afternoon.

After a thumping win in their opening game against Limerick, it has been major step up for Raff Cretaro’s young guns. From the off, Treaty were all over the Mayo backline, with Christian Stack, Dylan Browne and Xavier Nelligan prominent. Browne had breached the Mayo defence twice in the opening ten minutes but his first effort was well over while his second saw Ronan McElevey step in with a brilliant last-ditch tackle.

Browne will feel he should have opened the scoring after he intercepted a loose kickout by Harry Naylor but the Mayo shotstopper made up for his error with a fine stop.

Five minutes before the end of the first period, Treaty took a deserved lead. Aaron Cobbs-Sarko was quickest to react after Nelligan’s low drive was palmed away and the former tapped it in. Browne should have doubled the lead at the end of the first period after Naylor mishit a kickout but he recovered with a great save to deny Naylor.

Mayo saw more of the ball in the second period but could not translate that into any clear cut chances and Treaty added a second when they broke down the wing and a pinpoint cross by Stack found Browne unmarked six yards out to fire in.

Mayo saw a golden opportunity at the start of the third period go amiss when Mayo got some joy behind the Treaty backline as Dylan Dunne broke through, but his shot across the face of goal was parried away by Conor Crofton.

That was as good as it would get for Mayo as Treaty continued to have the better of the chances. Sean Callum-Keane blazed over from Darragh Kirwan’s corner while Mayo substitute goalkeeper Ajay Gormley-Walsh produced an inspired piece of goalkeeper to deny Unai Aguinagalde in a one-on-one following a Treaty break.

With a minute to go, Treaty got the third goal their efforts deserved as a hopeful ball from Bryan Parish dropped into the path of Browne who finished well past Gormley-Walsh. Next up for Mayo is a trip to the Showgrounds next Saturday for a derby against Sligo Rovers.
