Underage finals serve up plenty of drama

A feast of underage ladies football was enjoyed at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence on Bank Holiday Monday, May 6 with no fewer than eight games taking place as part of the Mayo LGFA U16 Star League Finals.

Westport and Knockmore won the Division 1 cup and shield titles respectively, with Westport beating Kilmoremoy by 0-14 to 3-02 and Knockmore convincing 3-14 to 1-08 winners against Belmullet.

There was an entertaining Division 2 cup final where Parke/Keelogues/Crimlin got the better of neighbours Castlebar Mitchels by 4-08 to 2-10. There was an incredibly close Division 2 shield final too, as Carnacon had just the one point to spare over Balla – 3-12 to 5-05.

Things were far more one-sided in the Division 3 cup decider where Kilmovee Shamrocks beat St Brigid's by 7-14 to 0-05. The Division 3 shield final saw Kiltimagh beat Kilmaine by 4-10 to 2-08.

Louisburgh struck an incredible baker’s dozen of goals in their 13-13 to 4-02 win against Castlebar Mitchels ‘B’ in the Division 4 cup final while in the Division 4 shield final, Achill beat Burrishoole 4-12 to 2-07.

Meanwhile, the final of the Connacht LGFA minor football championship, in which are involved, has been confirmed as taking place on Saturday, May 18 at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence. Throw-in is at 4pm.
