University of Galway are through to the quarter-finals of the Sigerson Cup after they defeated St Mary's University College Belfast 0-11 to 1-7 in Abbotstown tonight.

Maurice Sheridan's men were leading 0-9 to 0-5 after 48 minutes following a score from Mayo star Tommy Conroy.

However, St Mary's mounted a comeback as they hit 1-2 without reply as Shea Daly found the net while Seán Rock raised two white flags.

Just when it looked like the 2022 champions were heading out of the Sigerson Cup, up stepped Oughterard's Cian Monaghan to kick two great points and send the Galway side through to the quarter-finals.

Balla's Conor Dunleavy lined out at right corner-back, while Belmullet's Ryan O'Donoghue played full-forward.

Elsewhere, Maynooth University beat UCC 2-13 to 1-8.
