Interim Mayo manager Stephen Rochford has said that the overall year will be reviewed before any decision is made regarding the future of the current management.
Speaking to RTÉ Sport in the wake of Mayo’s defeat to Donegal yesterday, that saw them crash out of the All-Ireland Championship at the bottom of Group 1, Rochford said it was too early to talk about the future or the long-term consequences of Mayo’s early exit.
“It is mid-June and we’re out of the Championship. It is very, very disappointing.”
“Kevin McStay is still the manager of the Mayo team. I'm standing in on an interim basis. Our season comes to an end and we'll review the year as appropriate.”
He said the county's future is a bright one with a number of young players stepping up this year to become regular members of the matchday panel.
“Come the end of the year people will always look to see is that the finality of some players but I think everybody going into that last minute or two were giving their all.”
“There have been a number of young players who have come into it and that is just the way the team group evolves over time. You need to bring in those new players.”
