Former Mayo senior footballer Diarmuid Byrne will be put forward for ratification as the next manager of the Mayo U17s.

The Castlebar Mitchels clubman, who has had a long association with Mayo GAA Academy teams, has been recommended as the successor to joint-managers David Heaney and Tom O’Reilly by the Mayo GAA U17 Management Appointment Committee.

Mayo GAA’s Coiste Bainistíochta will review the recommendation at their next meeting and if accepted, Diarmuid Byrne will be recommended to delegates at the October meeting of the Coiste Contae.

Byrne was a member of the Mayo senior football panel that contested All-Ireland SFC finals in 1996 and '97
