Moran trials new Mayo players in Friday night victory

Hugh O'Loughlin from Kilmaine - and a member of last season's Mayo U20 team - featured for Mayo in a senior football challenge against Galway on Friday night.

Eighteen players were given an opportunity to impress Mayo senior football manager Andy Moran on Friday night when a Mayo development squad team played a challenge match against Galway. The Mayo team that lined out in Milltown was comprised entirely of players who have not yet featured in league or championship at senior level for the county. Several of the players may feel they have done their chances of securing a place in the senior panel for 2026 no harm whatsoever given that Mayo recorded a 2-12 to 1-8 win against the Tribesmen.

The Mayo team that lined out was as follows: Jack Livingstone (Breaffy); Ruairí Cullen (Charlestown), Brian O’Donovan (Balla), James Lavelle (Belmullet); Hugh O’Loughlin (Kilmaine), Oisin Jordan (Balla), Darragh Reilly (Parke-Keelogues-Crimlin); Brian O’Malley (Westport), Liam Donoghue (Kiltane); Adam Barrett (Kilmaine), Seamus Howard (Belmullet), Diarmuid Coggins (Crossmolina); Anthony Barrett (Belmullet), Ronan Clarke (Moy Davitts), Tom O’Flaherty (Aghamore). Subs used: Kuba Callaghan (Ballaghaderreen), David Dolan (Balla, goalkeeper), Nathan Moran (Hollymount-Carramore).
