McStay names strong lineup for National League opener

Mayo senior football manager Kevin McStay has named his team for the opening round of the Allianz National Football League Division 1 game against Galway this Sunday, January 28, at 1:45pm in Pearse Stadium, Salthill.
Knockmore's versatile netminder Colm Reape returns ahead of Rob Hennelly, who played in the FBD quarter-final against London. Ballaghaderreen's David McBrien returns to the full back line, Jack Coyne of Ballyhaunis and Westport's Rory Brickenden complete the Mayo full back line.
Paddy Durcan, UCD student Sam Callinan and Eoghan McLaughlin make up the Mayo half-line while experienced Stephen Coen and Castlebar Mitchels Bob Tuohy are named at midfield.
Upfront, Aghamore's Fergal Boland, Jack Carney Kilmeena, and Jordan Flynn from Crossmolina Deel Rovers are named in an impressive half-forward line. The Mayo full-forward line consists of Breaffy's Aidan O'Shea, Tommy Conroy from The Neale and CLG Beal an Mhuirthead's Ryan O'Donoghue.
McStay has confirmed that Paddy Durcan from Castlebar Mitchels will captain Mayo for 2024, with Stephen Coen and Tommy Conroy as vice-captains.
The game this weekend is broadcast live on TG4 Sport with coverage starting at 1:30pm, with radio commentary on Midwest Radio with Michael D McAndrew and Colm Boyle.
Sean Hurson from Tyrone is to officiate at the game.
