Mayo senior manager Liam McHale has named his side to face Leitrim in the opening game of the Connacht LGFA Senior Championship.
Ella Brennan, Sherin Al Massry, Riona Jordan, Ava McDonnell and Alannagh Devereux make their way into the starting fifteen, with Ciara Whyte, Annie Gough, Chelsea Doherty Saoirse Delaney and Aoife Geraghty on the bench.
Leitrim’s victory in the 2024 TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Championship ensures a three-team TG4 Connacht Senior Championship this year.
Leitrim will be the underdogs against traditional big-hitters Mayo and Galway but they’re not without hope against a Mayo side relegated from Division 1 of the Lidl National League.
Leitrim will have been disappointed not to gain promotion and it will be interesting to note if there’s a major gulf between a team operating in the topflight and the bottom tier this year.
With home advantage, Mayo will still start as favourites for this one. Throw-in is at 1pm on Sunday in Swinford Amenity Park and there will be live commentary on Midwest Radio with Stephen Grealis and Noirín Moran.
Mayo: Julia Gawalkiewicz; Lucy Wallace, Nicola O’Malley, Ciara Durkin; Danielle Caldwell, Ella Brennan, Sherin El Massry; Hannah Reape, Saoirse Lally; Riona Jordan, Sinead Walsh, Ava McDonnell; Erin Murray, Clodagh Keane, Alannagh Devereux.
