Mayo v Kerry: All-Ireland final train services update
Heuston Station..
Minister of State Alan Dillon TD has welcomed confirmation from Iarnród Éireann that it is planning additional train services for supporters travelling from Mayo and Kerry to the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final, while reiterating the need for early certainty on ticket availability and sales arrangements.
Minister Dillon praised Irish Rail’s train drivers and all staff for the additional services provided for both the quarter-final and semi-finals, saying their efforts had made a real difference for supporters travelling to Croke Park.
Minister Dillon said, “Firstly, I want to acknowledge the excellent work of Irish Rail’s drivers and staff in providing additional services for the quarter-final and semi-finals. Their efforts ensured thousands of Mayo supporters could travel safely and conveniently to support the team.
“I welcome the confirmation that Irish Rail is working to provide additional services for supporters from Mayo and Kerry and that detailed planning is already underway. This confirmation will provide some reassurance to supporters who are currently trying to make arrangements for the final.”
However, Minister Dillon said supporters still need clarity on when tickets for any special All-Ireland Final trains will go on general sale.
“With the All-Ireland Final now approaching, the priority is to give supporters certainty. I know demand will far exceed the number of tickets available, but people deserve clear information on when tickets will go on sale.
“Irish Rail has indicated that it hopes to confirm the number of additional services later this week and that all additional trains are expected to sell out very quickly, as was the case for the quarter-final and semi-final services. It is therefore important that supporters receive timely information and fair access to tickets.”
Minister Dillon added, “I am also asking Irish Rail to introduce a queuing system for online sales, so that supporters have a fair and transparent opportunity to purchase tickets.
“I have been in direct contact with Irish Rail seeking clarification on the arrangements for special trains and ticket sales, and I welcome the engagement to date. As soon as further information is confirmed, I will communicate it to the public.”
Minister Dillon said Mayo supporters are already making plans for the final and noted that clear communication from Irish Rail will help avoid unnecessary confusion and frustration in the days ahead.
