The Mayo Senior, Intermediate and Junior Football Championship finals take place this weekend in Castlebar.

Speaking ahead of the finals, Cllr Mark Duffy said: "It's terrific to see six teams from the same side of the county competing at the top table of Mayo football."

He has wished the teams, staff and supporters well ahead of the three finals.

"The high level of competitiveness from teams in North Mayo should be the catalyst for an increase in investment in sporting facilities."

Duffy has said that this weekend demonstrates the need for all weather sporting facilities including full-size GAA and soccer pitches which are desperately required in the north of the county to help grow participation.

"A key element to the upcoming election campaign is investment in sporting and amenity infrastructure across county Mayo," Duffy said.
