Mayo suffered defeat in the opening round of the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Junior Camogie Championship on Saturday, despite leading at the break in Tooreen.
A strong first half display saw Mayo take a 1-3 to 1-1 advantage into half-time with Cathy Greally banking 1-1 and Niamh Kennedy adding two frees as the hosts looked strong.
However, Louth came out with a greater attacking intent after the interval and hit three second half goals to turn the game around.
Mayo battled throughout with points from Niamh Kennedy, Hannah Tener and substitutes Róisín Toland and Amy Murray, but Louth’s clinical finishing proved decisive as they ran out nine-point winners.
Positives are to be taken from the matchup as Amy Murray and Alannah Donaghy made their inter-county debuts for Mayo, as well as a number of minors stepping up to senior level.
With players to return, they will now regroup and look forward to a Round 2 clash away to Donegal this Saturday, May 30. Throw-in is at 3.30pm.
