Mayo will go into the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Junior Championship with great confidence after a strong second half display saw them defeat Monaghan 1-12 to 1-6 in their final group game.

Monaghan led at the break, 1-5 to 0-5, with Niamh Kelly's major on 19 minutes the difference in a low-scoring opening half

The home side dominated the second but Mayo were guilty of some poor wides in the third quarter, and Niamh Kelly put Monaghan back in front on 51 minutes.

Yet that score would be the only point of the second half for Monaghan, as Mayo finished strongly. Lisa Scahill levelled the game before Amy Murray put them in front for the first time since the 19th minute.

Meabh Tunney and Scahill extended their lead to three before Hannah Tener found the net deep inside injury-time as Mayo sealed their first win of the championship in style.

Up next for Mayo will be the All-Ireland semi-final, which will be played Saturday week, June 27.
