National silverware failed to make its way to Mayo following the exploits of Béal an Mhuirthead, Cill Chomáin and Cill tSéadhna at the Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta in the Muskerry Gaeltacht in Cork at the weekend.

Cill Chomáin came closed to delivering an All-Ireland title, after reaching the Junior Mens Football Semi-finals on Sunday.

The last-four place came after a busy Saturday, which saw Cill Chomáin in action twice in two full 60-minute games.

They began the day with a 2-10 to 1-8 preliminary round win over Meath side Clann na nGael, with goals in either half from Luke Ó Thaidhg and Seán Ó hÉilí.

Cill Chomáin booked their place in the last four thanks to a 2-11 to 0-9 win over Cork side Naomh Abán on Saturday in the quarter-finals.

It didn't take long for Cill Chomáin to find the net and they grabbed two goals inside eight minutes, as Luke Ó Thaidhg and Daithí Mac an tSiúil found the net to ensure an early 2-1 to 0-2 lead.

However, the semi-final proved to be a different story as Donegal side Naomh Mhuire showed no mercy, powering to a 2-17 to 0-4 win on Sunday.

Naomh Mhuire led by just 0-2 to 0-1 after four minutes, with Justin Ó hÉilí grabbing Cill Chomáin's score.

However this was to be his sides only score for the opening half, as Naomh Mhuire moved 2-10 to 0-1 ahead at the break thanks to two Donal Devlin goals.

There was a better balance to the scoring in the second half, with Ó hÉílí, Kian Ó Gallchobhair and Conchuir Mac an tSiligh on target for Cill Chomáin, but Naomh Mhuire had firmly laid the foundations for the win early in this contest.

Elsewhere there was disappointment for Béal an Mhuirthead and Cill tSéadhna in the Men's Senior and Ladies Junior competitions respectively.

Béal an Mhuirthead exited the Senior Mens competition on Saturday morning after a 4-13 to 1-12 defeat to Cork side Beál Átha a Ghaorthaidh.

Just a point separated the sides six minutes into the second half, but a run of scores from Beál Átha a Ghaorthaidh, saw them finish 10 point winners in the end.

Béal an Mhuirthead were handed an early blow, and were 2-1 to 0-0 in arrears after just two minutes, as Beál Átha a Ghaorthaidh netted two quick goals.

A flicked 18th minute goal helped cut the gap to three points and indeed Béal an Mhuirthead had the ball in the net again in the 23rd minute, but this effort was eventually ruled out for a square ball.

2-5 to 1-5 in arrears at the break, Beal an Mhuirthead worked hard, but their opponents upped their game, and found the net twice in the second half, helping them move 11 points clear.

Meanwhile the Ladies footballers of Cill tSéadhna also battled hard, but found it tough against a Naomh Fionnbarra side from Cork on Saturday, finishing on the wrong side of a 6-14 to 1-3 score-line.

Naomh Fionnbarra set the tone early in this tie when they found the net after just 40 seconds from former Cork player and TG4 Analyst Rhona Ní Bhuacalla.

There was no let up from her side and at the break they led 4-8 to 1-1.

Cill tSéadhna only managed to add two points to their tally in the second half, as Naomh Fionnbarra ran out 26-point winners.
