Despite tough weather conditions, 20 teams from 14 counties competed in the 37th Lidl sponsored Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé, the famed adult ladies and men’s Gaelic football festival, which took place across West Kerry at the weekend.

Achill Ladies competed in the intermediate ladies cup while Breaffy lined out in the junior ladies cup with some good results.

In the four team intermediate ladies cup, Achill played in their straight knockout semi-final against West Kerry’s Corca Dhuibhne. The local side led from early on, leading by 2-6 to 0-4 at half time. Aided by a big wind in the second half, the local side pulled away despite Achill’s two late goals, ending on a scoreline of 3-10 to 2-6. Achill did get a chance at redemption in the runners-up final, beating Kerry’s Annascaul / Castlegregory after extra time by 3-9 to 3-5.

Breaffy lined out in the four-team junior ladies cup against local side Daingean UÍ Chúis at Dingle GAA pitch, which was a hard-fought battle all the way until the local girls finally hit a goal in the final five minutes to seal a one-point victory on a score of 2-2 to 1-4. Breaffy got some glory on the day in the runners-up final, beating Meath’s Blackhall Gaels by a single point on a scoreline of 3-8 to 2-10.
