A decision on whether to change the dates of this season’s Mayo senior and intermediate football championship finals is expected to be made later today (Sunday).
Mayo GAA County Board has re-fixed all of this weekend’s postponed semi-final matches in the senior, intermediate, junior ‘A’ and junior ‘B’ competitions for next weekend, but playing the senior and intermediate finals on their original dates (October 18/19) would leave the finalists with just one week to prepare.
The semi-finals were cancelled on account of Storm Amy on Friday which made for extremely poor pitch conditions.
The senior semi-finals had been due to be played separately yesterday and today, however, both games will now take place next Saturday at their original venues. Ballina Stephenites and Knockmore, who had been due to play today, will now meet at St Tiernan’s Park, Crossmolina next Saturday, October 11 at 1.30pm, with spectators also having the opportunity to take in the other semi-final between Crossmolina Deel Rovers and Westport which will throw-in late that day at 4pm in Fr O’Hara Park, Charlestown.
The intermediate semi-finals are to go ahead on Sunday, October 12 with Kiltane and Kilmeena clashing at 1.30pm in Knockmore, followed at 4pm by the meeting of Moy Davitts and Ardnaree Sarsfields in James Stephens Park, Ballina.
The Mayo SFC Relegation Final between Ballyhaunis and Mayo Gaels has also been re-fixed for Sunday, October 19 as next Sunday will see Ballyhaunis host Tooreen in the Mayo SHC Final at 3pm.
