Mayo GAA makes decision on club championship schedule

The Mayo senior, intermediate and junior club football championships are to proceed as planned, despite the county's All-Ireland SFC Final victory last Sunday.
The first round of the junior championship commences this Friday evening with the opening games in the senior championship taking place as originally planned on Friday week, August 7, giving the likes of Ryan O'Donoghue, whose Belmullet team travels to Knockmore, and Donnacha McHugh, Bob Tuohy and Paddy Durcan, whose Castlebar Mitchels' team visits Balla, just 12 days between their historic victory over Kerry in Croke Park - and the ongoing celebrations - and taking to the pitch for their clubs in pursuit of the Moclair Cup.
All other matches in the senior and intermediate championship will also be played that same weekend, over Saturday and Sunday.
There had been speculation and indeed an expectation that a decision would be taken to delay the first round matches but a Mayo County Board source has today confirmed to the that "there is no plan to change it".
There are four games this Friday evening in Round 1 of the Mayo JFC: Killala v Achill, Northern Gaels v Ballycroy, Kilmovee v Swinford and Tourmakeady v Eastern Gaels.
