Mayo GAA Centre of Excellence takes a step nearer reality

Mayo GAA chairman Seamus Tuohy has said a plan for financing a new Centre of Excellence will be revealed in two weeks’ time.
The proposed Mayo GAA Centre of Excellence facility in Bohola is set to move to the stage of development.
Delegates were given a presentation of the work done to date at this week’s Mayo GAA County Board meeting, which has included meetings with relevant stakeholders, site investigation works, land/topographical surveys and pre-planning meetings.
The facilities proposed include four full-size pitches, a 20,000 sq. foot clubhouse which includes meeting rooms, gymnasium, physio office, doctors office, dressing rooms, and a car park. The project has been estimated to cost over €15million.
Mayo GAA chairman Seamus Tuohy said that a plan for fundraising for the project will be put to delegates at the next meeting in two weeks’ time, while also adding that state funding will also be required.
After much debate among the delegates, who stressed that the funding cannot go back onto the clubs, delegates passed a motion to begin the appointment of a contractor to get planning permission for the project.
