Two Mayo men helped University of Limerick (UL) get their 2024 Sigerson Cup campaign off to a winning start last night.

Ballina Stephenites' Frank Irwin and Bohola Moy Davitts' Cian McHale both started for UL as they defeated ATU Donegal 3-12 to 0-8 in the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence.

Irwin kicked 0-2 from left half-forward, while McHale lined out at left corner-forward.

Meanwhile, there was strong Mayo involvement on the ATU Galway team that lost their 1-22 to 1-5 opening clash to UCD in Liam Mellows GAA Club.

Mayo Gaels' Seán Keane, who scored 0-1, and Bohola Moy Davitts' Conor Reid started in midfield, while Eastern Gaels' Ethan Owens and Davitts' Niall Treacy lined out in the half-forward line. Ballyhaunis' Aidan Sloyan came off the bench in the second half.

Elsewhere, Ulster University beat UCC 1-13 to 1-10 at the National Games Development Centre in Abbotstown.
