Mayo duo help UCD book place in Sigerson Cup quarter-finals

Sam Callinan played the full match at centre half-back as UCD defeated Ulster University in the Sigerson Cup last night.

Mayo defenders Sam Callinan and Rory Brickenden helped University College Dublin (UCD) book their place in the Sigerson Cup quarter-finals.

Westport's Brickenden played the full match at full-back while Ballina Stephenites' Callinan lined out at centre-half back as UCD beat Ulster University 1-13 to 0-8 at Billings Park, Belfield last night.

Meanwhile, Ballina's Frank Irwin and Bohola Moy Davitts' Cian McHale, who kicked a point, both started for University of Limerick (UL) in their narrow 0-8 to 0-7 win over Maynooth University. UL also booked their place in the knockout stages.

Elsewhere, Garrymore man Mark Gibbons kicked 0-3 from centre half-forward as TUS Midlands lost to Queen's University Belfast 1-14 to 1-10 at Páirc Esler, Newry.
