There was no shortage of talking points today as seven games were played across senior, intermediate and junior in the Mayo Club Championship.
The Senior Championship saw two big derbies played. Balla picked up their second ever win and they did so in style, defeating neighbours Mayo Gaels 3-15 to 1-9.
Despite a spirited display by Claremorris, their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals appear over after Ballintubber were victorious 0-15 to 1-9 in Claremorris.
In Intermediate, the big result was in Sean Duffy Park as Ardnaree recorded a 0-23 to 2-15 win over last year’s semi-finalists Ballinrobe.
Down south, it was a one-sided affair between Kilmaine and Louisburgh as the home side ran out 16-point winners in the end, 2-25 to 1-12.
It all went wrong for Louisburgh before the break as Oisin Lally was shown a red card. Adam Barrett, who kicked 1-11, converted a penalty before the break and Kevin Mullin scored a fabulous second goal for Kilmaine in the second half.
In the Junior Championship, both games in Group 1 took place. Ardagh enjoyed a comfortable 2-16 to 1-8 win over Ballycastle, while Ballycroy edged Killala 0-13 to 0-12.
The other game was in Group 2 as Kilmovee narrowly defeated Northern Gaels 0-14 to 0-12.
