There was no shortage of talking points as Round 2 of the Mayo Club Championship got underway this evening.
In the Senior Championship, a bumper crowd was in Breaffy as the hosts took on neighbours Castlebar Mitchels and the visitors will be left to rue their luck as a controversial free late on was nailed by Pierce Deane for a share of the spoils, finishing 0-12 apiece.
Kevin Filan's side will likely need to beat Aghamore in their final group game to avoid an early exit.
The other game in Senior was a humdinger as Garrymore overturned an eight-point deficit at half-time to defeat Ballyhaunis 2-13 to 2-11. The home side failed to score in the final quarter as Garrymore reeled them in.
Andy Glennon's goal put the pressure on and late points from Shane Nally, Cathal Slattery and Colin Commins secured the win and Ballyhaunis needing a minor miracle to avoid the relegation payoffs.
In the Intermediate Championship, The Neale are also on the brink as Kilmeena came from behind to win 2-16 to 1-16. A Tommy Conroy goal, seven points from Tom Lydon and six from Robbie Hughes looked like giving Neale a badly needed win but goals from Darragh Keaveney and the returning Caolach Halligan saw Kilmeena all but book their place in the quarter-finals. Neale will hope that Burrishoole beat Cill Chomáin on Sunday or else they will fail to get out of the the group.
The other game saw a stunning result as Parke Keelogues Crimlin storm to an eleven-point victory over Davitts in Ballindine.
Level at half-time, Darragh Reilly scored 2-3 for Tom Walsh and Martin Keaveney's side as they recovered from their first round defeat to Kiltane.
