Mayo Camogie have confirmed the appointment of Colum O'Meara as manager for the senior team.
O’Meara, a native of Killimor and now living in Cappataggle, Co Galway, has been officially appointed to the position. He was ratified at a Mayo Camogie County Board meeting last Thursday night.
It is a hugely positive move for Mayo Camogie, who just two weeks ago had warned that if they couldn’t appoint a manager, they would have to withdraw from the upcoming league campaign and this summer’s All-Ireland Premier Junior Camogie Championship. Mayo’s opening league game is on Sunday, February 24, against Tyrone.
Colum has coached at every age level in clubs and counties in Galway, Roscommon, Leitrim, Sligo, London and Australia and has an impressive CV. He will be getting straight to work with his senior charges, with the opening game of the league just two weeks away.
The chairperson of Mayo Camogie, Rebecca Fahy, said: “We are delighted with the appointment of a new senior manager. Thank you to everyone, nationally and internationally, who expressed interest in the role. We wish Colum every success.”
Rebecca continued: “Ní neart go cur le chéile – Mayo Camogie would like to thank all who have supported them in their efforts to continue to develop the sport in the county.”
