Masters begin recruiting ahead of 2026 season

At last week's AGM of the Mayo Gaelic Masters were, from left to right: Kieran O'Malley, Bonniconlon; Orla Loftus, Crossmolina; John Pat Sheridan, Burrishoole and Stephen Connolly, Garrymore.

The annual general meeting of the Mayo Gaelic Masters took place last Tuesday night in the elegant surroundings of Breaffy House Hotel, with a strong attendance reflecting the growing momentum behind the team.

The meeting was chaired by Kieran O’Malley of Bonniconlon GAA Club, who was returned unopposed as chairman for a second full term. Garrymore native Stephen Connolly was elected secretary, while Crossmolina’s Orla Loftus was voted in as treasurer, completing a committed and experienced executive team for the year ahead.

Looking back on last season, members reflected on a memorable campaign which saw Mayo Masters reach the All-Ireland semi-final, where they were narrowly beaten by a strong Cavan side. With solid foundations now in place, there was a clear sense of optimism about building on that progress in 2026.

Manager Paddy Cunney, entering his second year at the helm, addressed the meeting and outlined his vision for the season ahead. The Swinford clubman highlighted recruitment as a key priority, stressing the importance of welcoming new players into the panel as preparations begin. With an opening away fixture against London on the horizon, Cunney noted that a strong start will be vital and encouraged interested players to make contact through social media channels or directly with the management team in the coming weeks.

In closing the meeting, chairman Kieran O’Malley called on everyone involved to continue working together to ensure Mayo Masters remain as competitive as possible. He also emphasised the core ethos of the setup, providing a fun, friendly and inclusive environment where players can enjoy a high standard of football while maintaining the strong sense of camaraderie that defines Mayo Masters.

With clear leadership, renewed ambition and a focus on growth, Mayo Masters now turn their attention to the season ahead with confidence and purpose.
