Ladies get ready for MacHale Park takeover

All three of this year's Mayo LGFA Club Championship Finals - senior, intermediate and junior - are to be played in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park.

The chairperson of Mayo LGFA has described as “really special”, the fact that Hastings Insurance MacHale Park has been made available for this season’s Mayo LGFA Club Championship Finals. The junior and intermediate finals will both be played at the Castlebar venue on Saturday, October 4 with the senior final due to be played there eight days later.

“We are very grateful to Mayo GAA for their support in making MacHale Park available for our showcase fixtures. The chance for our players, clubs, families, and supporters to experience finals in the county’s grounds is really special,” said Sinéad Stagg.

The chairperson has also revealed that the ladies and men’s county boards are intending to work together on their fixtures calendars in an effort to avoid overlapping of matches.

“This year’s fixture calendar has brought some unavoidable clashes between the men’s and ladies’ championships. Looking ahead, in a hugely positive step, Mayo GAA and Mayo LGFA hope to jointly plan key championship fixtures for 2026,” Sinéad Stagg explained.

“This is a really positive step for Gaelic football in Mayo. By working together, Mayo GAA and Mayo LGFA will be aiming to avoid pressure on facilities, referees, media and above all we'll be ensuring that all of our players and supporters get the very best experience from our county championships. We have a thrilling finals series ahead of us and we hope that the parishes will be out in force to support their brilliant ladies.”

In next Saturday’s (October 4) double-header at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park, Claremorris and MacHale Rovers will contest the Mayo LGFA Intermediate Championship Final at 1pm followed by the junior decider at 3pm which sees Parke-Keelogues-Crimlin take on Swinford-Killasser.

The senior final, which is a repeat of last year’s will be played on Sunday, October 12 at 2pm, with Westport up against an in-form Knockmore team who are intent on avenging last year’s defeat.

Elsewhere, the Mayo LGFA Junior ‘B’ Championship finals (cup and shield) have been scheduled for Saturday week, October 11, at Swinford Amenity Park. The shield final will throw-in at 12pm followed by the cup final at 3pm.
