Injury forces change of referee for replay

Kevin Connelly has been drafted in to referee Saturday's Mayo SFC final replay as an eleventh hour replacement for James Regan.

Mayo GAA have confirmed a change of referee for Saturday’s replay of the county senior football championship final.

James Regan was to officiate over his first Mayo SFC final but has ruled himself out this afternoon because of an injury niggle.

Mayo GAA’s Communications Officer John Walker has confirmed to the Western People that following a snap meeting of the Competition Controls Committee (CCC), the appointment has now been given to Regan’s Hollymount-Carramore clubmate Kevin Connelly, who had been the original standby referee.

James Regan is still fit enough to fulfil the role of linesman instead.

The match between Ballina Stephenites and Westport St Patrick’s takes place in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park at 3pm on Saturday.
