Mayo GAA treasurer Valerie Murphy has updated delegates on the current engagement with Revenue regarding a legacy issue in relation to tax liabilities and expenses.
She said the process is ongoing and make take several months to complete. As a result, she could not make a comment on specific details of the self-review finding until the voluntary disclosures have been accepted by Revenue Commissioners.
Ms Murphy revealed they had also been advised at county level, that club expenses and payments to managers are likely to come under review in the coming years and urged all clubs to ensure their tax affairs are compliant.
On the county’s finances, the small rise in expenditure has been offset by a major rise in income.
In terms of income, gate receipts were up from €638,898 last year to €773,280 this year, and commercial income has seen a steep rise from €918,469 to €1,191,347. Income from Mayo GAA TV reached record levels, with net profit doubling from last year’s €63,580 to €137,152.
Fundraising income was down from €529,638 to €441,605, with income from Cairde Mhaigh Eo fundraising down to €120,427 from €209,346. Income from Cúl Camps also saw a rise from €266,913 to €285,402.
Expenses on the senior football team are down from €882,778 to €814,644 last year, with expenditure down due to no overseas trip to New York. Although there has been a 12% increase in expenditure on the senior hurling team, it is still less than 30% of what is spent on the footballer’s expenses, at €232,642.
Expenses on the U20/U17/Development team saw a rise to €505,708 on last year’s €297,914.
Expenditures on the upkeep of grounds saw a sharp jump from €252,575 to €378,218, which Ms Murphy said was due to the upkeep of turnstiles and the pitch for the Connacht Rugby game.
Administrative expenses were up to €274,545 from €253,994 while coaching and development expenses were down to €589,091 from €615,088. Matchday expenses were also down to €456,636 from €478,377.
Mayo GAA’s overall income was €4,206,905, up €417,143 on 2024, while total expenditure was €3,788,952 also up €34,852 on the previous year. In total, Mayo GAA recorded a surplus of €453,459, which is up €382,291 on the previous year.
When Ms Murphy asked if there were any questions from delegates, Ballycroy’s Michael Gallagher asked how much did Mayo GAA benefit from the Connacht Rugby game earlier this year. Ms Murphy said she was unable to disclose the details due to ‘commercial sensitivities’.
