For the first time in the history of the GAA in East Mayo, the divisional board has elected a female chairperson. The moment came last Wednesday night, when the East Mayo GAA Board held its annual convention at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence in Bekan.

Ballyhaunis GAA member Mary Prenty, whose husband is Connacht GAA secretary John Prenty, takes over from another Ballyhaunis member, Michael Daly, who was elected to the role of vice chairperson on the night.

Stephen Mooney from Eastern Gaels GAA Club was selected as secretary with Tony Byrne of Moy Davitts GAA to serve as assistant secretary. Michael Hopkins from Ballaghaderreen GAA Club is the East Board treasurer.
