GAA star steps away from inter-county scene

After eleven seasons wearing the Primrose and Blue of Roscommon as a senior footballer, Ciaráin Murtagh has called time on his inter-county career.
The St Faithleach clubman signs of having won one Connacht SFC title and no fewer than five National Football League titles – four in Division 2 and one in Division 3.
Murtagh, whose senior debut came in 2014, was captain of the Roscommon side that lifted the Nestor Cup in 2017. The attacking ace scored 24-312 over the course of his 122 league and championship appearances. He played at times alongside his brothers Brian and Diarmuid.
“On behalf of everyone in Roscommon GAA, I would like to sincerely thank Ciaráin for his incredible dedication, loyalty, and commitment,” said Roscommon GAA chairperson Brian Carroll.
“Ciaráin has been an integral part of so many of our most memorable days.
“Off the pitch, he has always been a top-class person, a leader, a gentleman, and someone who brought positivity and spirit to the dressing room every single day.
“He will be greatly missed by team-mates, management, and supporters alike,” Carroll concluded.
