Five Mayo men have helped University of Galway (UG) win the Electric Ireland Higher Education Division 1 Football League after they defeated Ulster University 0-15 to 0-9 in last night's final in Abbotstown.
It is the first time since 1979 that UG have captured the Ryan Cup.
Belmullet's Ryan O'Donoghue, The Neale's Tommy Conroy, and Balla duo Conor Dunleavy and Cillian Goulding were all on last night's panel, while the team is managed by former Mayo U20 manager Maurice Sheridan. The Balla native managed UG, then NUIG, to their first Sigerson Cup title in 19 years, when they beat a UL side that was led by David Clifford in the final.
University of Galway have won the Electric Ireland Ryan Cup for the first time since 1979!
