Following on from the huge success of its inaugural outing, Féile Chorn Acla will return to Achill on Saturday, August 2.
This unique and evocative event at Davitt Park in Polranny will once again see the sons and daughters of Achill natives dotted around the world partake in Gaelic football matches with local Achill players in under-14 and under-16 age-groups. Féile Chorn Acla 2024 saw over 200 youngsters from 40 different clubs in Ireland and overseas participate in highly competitive games, watched on by a huge crowd of supporters.
Each team will have a blend of locals and diaspora, all vying for a chance to win coveted silverware. The McGinty Cup will be presented to the winners of the under-14 girls’ game, the Éamon Joyce Cup to the under-14 boys’ victors, the Francis O’Malley Cup to the under-16 girls and the Brian O’Keeffe Cup to the under-16 boys. Medals will be presented by members of the Mayo team, who will also be on hand for photos and autographs!

The daoine fásta won’t be left out either! Last year’s penalty shoot-outs were a big hit! This year, organisers have even better craic in store! Make sure ye get the Weetabix into ye and start stretching now – all will be revealed in time!
So, make your way to Páirc Ui Dáibhéid on Saturday next for some great football, mighty craic, singing, dancing, a few nibbles, a catch-up with old friends and a chance to make some new ones! Don’t forget to use your cúpla focal!
