Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA reflects on successful year

Award sponsor Mixie Jacob (Jacob Farm Machinery) presents Michael Gordon with his Hall of Fame award at last weekend's annual presentation function of Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA.

The AGM of Enniscrone-Kilglass GAA took place recently, with chairman, Cathal Mullaney, welcoming everyone and leading all in a moment’s silence for anyone who was bereaved in the past year.

Following the adoption of the minutes, the secretary, Shane Hargadon, presented his report in which he highlighted the completion of the club’s new clubhouse and its official opening in August along with the successful Golf Classic in July and the Charity Tractor Run at Christmas. He congratulated all the club members involved at county level during the year and who had success at their respective level, namely Ethan Carden, Brian Duffy and John Paul Carden with the U20s and Eoin Tuffy, Niall Duffy and Shane Murphy with the minors.

He followed on with a report of all the teams from the Nursery to the intermediate team with a synopsis of how all had performed for the year. He thanked all the coaches who helped in putting the report together.

Club treasurer, Clair Beglin Duffy delivered a detailed report in the financial statement for 2023. She noted membership was on par with previous years. Sponsorship was good as well and she thanked all the club sponsors for their continued support of the club.

In his address, Cathal Mullaney, thanked everyone at the club for allowing him the opportunity to be chairperson of the club. He said it was a time to take stock of the past and look to improve going forward this coming year. During the year the intermediate team regained Division 2 status while the minor team won two shield titles at ‘A’ level. The U13s also had success at shield level. He congratulated all the club players who wore the county jersey at any level during the year and thanked Alan Duffy, for his work with the national schools as Coaching Development Officer and Conor Gormley, Games Promotion Officer for West Sligo for his work with the Secondary School teams.

Cathal Mullaney went on to speak of the opening night back in August and how it showed everything that is good about the club. He thanked everyone who was involved in the transformation of our facilities from the main contractor, Rouse Project Development to the sponsors, volunteers and the community.

He thanked everyone involved in the negotiations that brought Sandcastles Creche as a long term tenant to the clubhouse, which means the facilities are all day and every day front and centre throughout the community.

He acknowledged the support of Enniscrone Golf Club who faciliated a very successful fundraiser and Kilglass-Enniscrone United FC who are joined with the club in the weekly Combined Clubs Blotto.

He finished by thanking all the committee for all their help and support during the year and in particular Shane as secretary, and Clair as treasurer.
