Some epic games have been thrown up following Sunday evening’s draw for the quarter-finals of the Mayo senior and intermediate championships.
With home advantage going to each of the group winners, Ballaghaderreen will welcome defending champions Ballina Stephenites in the round of eight. Perhaps the most eagerly anticipated game however, will be that at St Tiernan’s Park where current All-Ireland intermediate champions Crossmolina Deel Rovers will entertain North Mayo rivals Belmullet.
Breaffy, who denied Belmullet top spot in Group 2 in dramatic fashion on Saturday evening, will have home advantage for their clash with West Mayo rivals Westport while the remaining quarter-final pairs Knockmore with Ballintubber.
The senior relegation playoffs are also intriguing, with next door neighbours Ballyhaunis and Aghamore drawn in one semi-final with Charlestown Sarsfields and Mayo Gaels meeting in the other.
There’s a blockbuster all-North Mayo quarter-final in the intermediate championship after Kiltane were drawn at home to Cill Chomáin, last year’s junior champions. Last year’s county intermediate finalists Moy Davitts will host Ballinrobe, Ardnaree Sarsfields will entertain Parke-Keelogues-Crimlin and Kilmeena will take on Kilmaine, pending an appeal by Hollymount-Carramore against the result of their game against Kilmaine last Friday evening. The match was declared a draw, which saw Kilmaine advance on scoring difference at Hollymount-Carramore’s expense, but a score awarded as two points to Kilmaine in that game is being disputed.
The intermediate relegation playoffs have paired Islandeady with Louisburgh and Lahardane with neighbouring Burrishoole.
