David delivers in space for club and county
David Kenny captained his county to the National Hurling League Division 3 title in 2025 and helped inspire his club Tooreen to an incredible sixth Connacht title in eight seasons.
For club and for county, David Kenny has been a leader of hurling for many a year. Appointed captain of the Mayo senior team for the third-year running in 2025, he played in all 13 of the county’s league and championship games and was part of a miserly defence that held off eventual Christy Ring Cup winners London and helped Mayo win a second consecutive National Hurling League Division 3 title.
David Kenny also captained Mayo back to Croke Park for the Nicky Rackard Cup final, although a league and championship double was scuppered by Roscommon.
With his club Tooreen, he was also an ever present as they marched to a fifth Mayo senior hurling title in-a-row, defeating neighbours Ballyhaunis in the final, before wins over Four Roads, St Gabriel’s and Meelick-Eyrecourt that saw the Blue Devils win a sixth Connacht intermediate championship in eight seasons, all before the year was out.
The journey very nearly had a fairytale ending as Tooreen defeated Éire Óg Carrickmore to reach their second All-Ireland Club intermediate final last month, where they were involved in an epic contest with Upperchurch-Drombane that saw them pipped in Croke Park after extra-time.
David will hope to guide Mayo and Tooreen to further success in 2026. An excellent footballer also, he was an integral figure in Mayo’s All-Ireland minor and U21 triumphs in 2013 and 2016 respectively and continues to represent Aghamore with distinction in the Mayo SFC.
