All eyes are on Hollymount-Carramore GAA Club and what their next move might be after discovering on Friday night that their objection against the result of their Mayo Intermediate Football Championship match against Kilmaine was not upheld.
The consequence of last week's game ending in a draw was that Kilmaine advanced to the quarter-finals at Hollymount-Carramore’s expense because of a superior scoring difference in their championship group. However, footage of the game, which was televised by Mayo GAA TV, showed that one score by Kilmaine was awarded as two-points when in fact the kick had taken place from inside the arc.
But in issuing the findings of its Competitions Control Committee (CCC), Mayo GAA last night said it was satisfied that the score allowed “was recorded correctly in accordance with rule 7.5 n (ii).”
The rule states that an objection or counter-objection may only be upheld on the grounds… “That it is proven that a score allowed during the course of the game was either recorded or incorrectly recorded by the referee and that the error had affected the result of the game” and that an objection or counter-objection “based on the grounds that the referee had incorrectly allowed or failed to allow a score during play shall be deemed to be out of order.”
As it stands, Kilmaine will travel to play Kilmeena on Saturday, September 20 in the Egan Jewellers Mayo IFC quarter-final with the match at St Brendan’s Park due to throw-in at 3pm.
