In Canon Gibbons Park, Claremorris
There was no stopping Claremorris National School last Wednesday morning as they powered their way to the Division 4 hurling title at a sun splashed Canon Gibbons Park.
In a sign of things to come, Kyle Gleeson had fired in a goal and point with less than sixty seconds played and before Gaelscoil na gCeithre Maol could even settle, Gleeson added a second major a minute later after a shot from distance ended up in the back of the net.
The hosts continued to light it up on their own turf with some brilliant attacking play and on five minutes, they raised a green flag for the third time. Gleeson may have been denied on this occasion thanks to a save by Ruairí Ó Flaitheartaigh Breathnach, but Jack Veldon was in the right place at the right time to tap home the rebound.
Gaelscoil na gCeithre Maol almost responded with a goal of their own in the sixth minute but Roan Mac Uidhir’s chipped shot went just wide.

Mac Uidhir was a bright spark for the North Mayo school, scoring all his side’s points in the first-half, two coming from placed balls, but Claremorris were in no mood to relent, and Veldon netted a second goal on eleven minutes with a great strike to make it 4-2 to 0-3 at the break Any faint hopes of a comeback by Gaelscoil na gCeithre Maol were dashed a minute after the restart when Gleeson netted his third goal of the final. Adam Conroy almost got in on the act himself for the Boys in Blue but his effort went wide.
Gaelscoil na gCeithre Maol battled until the end as they tried to add more scores, but the Claremorris defence proved a tough nut to crack, and the South Mayo boys and girls finished with a flourish courtesy of two more goals by Veldon and a long-range free from goalkeeper Flynn Cassidy.
