There is a growing sense of belief within the Castlebar Mitchels Junior Camogie team that 2026 could be the year they finally take the next step and bring a first-ever Galway County Championship title back to Castlebar.

The Mitchels team begin their Galway Junior B 12-a-side Championship campaign this Saturday, August 15, when they face Ardrahan in the opening round at 7.30pm in Ardrahan. They will also come up against Mountbellow/Moylough, Eyrecourt and Liam Mellows during the championship campaign, with the semi-finals scheduled for the weekend of October 4 and the County Final set for the weekend of October 11.

Over the past number of seasons, Mitchels have been establishing themselves as a competitive force in Galway, with reaching both League and Championship semi-finals, demonstrating the quality and consistency within the group. The highlight of recent years came in 2023 when the team reached the County Final, where they faced Ardrahan. While they ultimately fell short on that occasion, the experience has only strengthened the determination within the squad to go one step further.

Now, as the 2026 championship approaches, there is a genuine belief that the pieces are in place for a breakthrough year.
