Brolly sees new era for Knockmore begin with victory over champions

It’s for more reason than just that the man who guided Knockmore to back-to-back county senior titles during the Covid years is back in charge that there’ll be plenty of eyes on the Parish of Backs outfit this season. Ray Dempsey has also appointed as head coach and selector, Joe Brolly, the former All-Ireland winning footballer and outspoken GAA pundit who has been resident in Knockmore for quite some time now.

The Derry native, Dempsey, and their players, got to experience football’s new rules in a competitive environment for the first time on Saturday, and it’s fair to say the home side adapted quite well, gaining a modicum of revenge for their 2024 Mayo SFC final defeat by overcoming Ballina Stephenites by 1-15 to 0-13 in the North Mayo Sweeney Cup semi-final.

See Tuesday's Western People for full coverage of that game and the other semi-final where All-Ireland Club intermediate champions Crossmolina Deel Rovers were beaten on penalties by Belmullet.
