Bonniconlon no match for the power of the Barony

Cill Chomáin will go into the junior quarter-finals with a 100% record as they saw off Bonniconlon last Sunday afternoon.
This game was effectively a dead rubber, as both teams had secured their quarter-finals berths, with Cill Chomáin already assured of top spot while Bonniconlon were set for a third placed finish after a previous defeat to Swinford. Despite there being little on the line, both teams were eager to continue the momentum and the visitors powered on the second half following David Walker’s goal on 41 minutes.
The first half was an even affair, the sides level on no fewer than four occasions. Chief scorer for each side, Derek Moran and Ciaran Gaughan, exchanged points before Cillian Upton edged Bonniconlon in front.
Sean Irwin and Eoghan McGrath countered for Cill Chomáin before Gaughan’s first free had them all square again. Placed balls by Derek Moran and Kian Gallagher were matched by Sean Neary and Gaughan’s second free to leave it at 0-5 apiece at the break before Cill Chomáin went in front early in the second half through a Liam Maloney mark and another Derek Moran free.
Justin Healy responded to a Ronan Neary point for Bonni and Healy took full advantage following the restart after his point as he intercepted Aidan Doherty’s short kickout before setting up Walker to palm into the net, although both Walker and Doherty saw their game come to an abrupt end after a nasty collision in the follow through after the goal.
Another two Gaughan frees kept the Blues in touch but outside of their star corner forward, Bonniconlon scores were sorely lacking elsewhere and another Moran free, followed up by Sean Murphy, Sean Irwin and Adam Conroy saw Cill Chomáin ease to victory in the end.
