Group 1 – Round 1

Bohola Moy Davitts v Louisburgh

At Sraith Garbh

Sunday, August 18, 3pm

Many people favorites for the intermediate championship this year, Bohola Moy Davitts begin their quest to return to the senior ranks when they take on Louisburgh in Foxford.

James Mulderrig’s side were left heartbroken as a Jack Carney-inspired Kilmeena defeated them in an epic semi-final last year after extra time. There surely would have been a feeling of ‘that should have been us’ when Kilmeena went on to beat Ballinrobe in the final.

Across the pitch, they are strong. Chris McGlynn is an excellent goalkeeper while Conor Reid has made an impact for the Mayo senior team this year.

It is up front though where they possess one of the strongest attacking units in the intermediate tier. With the likes of Cian McHale, Brian Reape, Brian Heneghan and Sean Mulroy across their half-forward and full-forward lines, no team have the amount of weapons to hurt you in intermediate like Moy Davitts, who have been scoring goals for fun in Division 1B, 19 in nine games.

Louisburgh’s championship ended in disappointing fashion last year as they limped out in the quarter-final stage at the hands of Castlebar Mitchels ‘B’ and they certainly will be in a battle to get out of the group this year with Crossmolina also in their group.

A solid outing in Division 2B saw them finish third and into a promotion playoff with Burrishoole, but defeat in extra-time to their West Mayo neighbours in the playoff will have stung.

In defence, Basil McLeod, Jason O’Malley and Damien O’Malley are soild while up front Mark Gibbons, Edward Ball, Ciaran Jennings and Dylan Prendergast have proven they can trouble the best in the intermediate championship over the years.

Louisburgh’s defence will have to be at the very best to stop the BMD goal machine but Messrs Reape, Heneghan, McHale and Reid will be looking to make a statement.

Verdict: Bohola Moy Davitts
