Exodus of Mayo teams from Connacht competitions

Ballina Town 'B' recorded a huge win over Westport United 'C' in League Two.
Ballyheane needed penalties to overcome Ballaghaderreen away from home. Goals came from Dylan Stevenson, Michael Fahy and Jack Tuffy in normal time and it finished 3-3 at full time. It was a dramatic shootout, ending 8-7 to Ballyheane.
Westport United B were put to the sword against a vastly superior Salthill Devon team, who enjoyed a 5-0 win at home against their Mayo opposition.
It ended 5-0 to Colga in the final game involving a Mayo side in the cup this weekend with Castlebar Celtic B on the losing end of that scoreline.
Castlebar Celtic A and Ballina Town are in action in round 4 next weekend, both away from home, taking on Cartron United and Maree/Oranmore respectively. Maree Oranmore beat Dunmore Town 2-1 over the weekend to advance.
Eight Mayo sides were dumped out of the tournament over the weekend. Cois Fharraige beat Fahy Rovers 6-0, Ballinagare Manor knocked out Castlebar Town on a 3-0 scoreline, Glen Celtic toppled Killala 3-0, Ballyheane B lost out 4-0 to Boyle Celtic, Ballyvary Blue Bombers lost 2-0 away to Oughterard and in a shock result, one of the Shield favourites Kiltimagh/Knock United were beaten 4-3 by Mervue United B.
There was better news for Ballyglass, who went away to Bearna Na Forbacha and came back with a 3-1 victory under their belt. Claremorris knocked out Ballinrobe Town with Mike Heaney scoring the only goal in a one-nil win while Westport United trashed Manulla 7-0 in the other all-Mayo Shield clash. Dylan O’Malley scored a brace while Mark McDonagh, Noah Massey, Kevin Kitterick, Darren Browne and Cian Halpin were also on the scoresheet.
Conn Rangers B picked up their first three points with a 2-1 victory over Claremorris B. Ronan Weir and Mikey McHale scored for the hosts while James Culinane got one back from the spot for Claremorris.
Swinford began life in League One with a 5-1 win over Crossmolina B. Ewan Murphy and Conor Devaney gave them a two goal lead at the break with goals in the final few minutes of the first half before substitute Keith Kavanagh hit a second half hat-trick for Mark Beattie’s side while Joseph Alexander got a consolation goal for the home side.
A late winner from Ivan Barrett earned Iorras Aontaithe all three points with a dramatic 4-3 win over Partry Athletic. Dara Padden gave Iorras the lead but Conall MacGabhan leveled it up. Cillian Reilly put Iorras ahead but Dean Conroy restored parity before half time. Aaron Tolan Jennings went from hero to villain, putting Partry 3-2 ahead but then received his marching orders for a second bookable offence. Diarmuid O’Donoghue brought things level before Barrett popped up with the late winner.
Ballina Town B showed their teeth with a 9-2 win over Westport United C. Ryan Moran scored three and John Durkan four with Ted Rowe adding another and the other an goal for Ballina. Danny O’Hora and Jamie Gil netted for Westport.
Ballinrobe Town B had a comfortable win over Fahy Rovers B in Fahy. Two goals from Sean Vahey and a strike in between from Jonathon Daly had the ‘Robe’ three goals up by the half hour mark and that was all she wrote.
Bangor Hibs came back to the Mayo League with a bang, winning 6-0 on their return against Ballyvary Blue Bombers B with four goals for Brian McHale and two for Kyle Holmes.
