Castlebar club sweeps the boards in Dublin

Pictured are the players, coaches, trainers and assistants of Castlebar Special Olympics Table Tennis Club who took part in a two-day competition in Dublin.

The table tennis players of Castlebar Special Olympics were at the headquarters of the National Wheelchair Association in Clontarf, Dublin recently where they took part in the Special Olympics National Games over the course of two days. There were six separate divisions of competition and the Castlebar club was represented in all six and enjoyed success across the board.

In Division One, it was a clean sweep of the top places for Castlebar as Sean Salmon, Jonathan Knight and Breege Walsh took first, second and third respectively. Paul Kavanagh and Paul McEllin won divisions two and three respectively while there was yet further success for Castlebar in Division Four as Kevin McEllin and Peter Carolan finished first and second.

Castlebar’s Alicia McDonagh won Women’s Division Two and Lisa Murray took top spot in Division Four followed by her Castlebar teammates Jean Gibbons and Grace O’Malley. Brenda Joyce and Keira Joyce were first and third in Women’s Division Five while taking overall victory in Division Six was Mary C Reilly.
