Breaffy aim to win back-to-back rounders titles

Breaffy will be looking to gain revenge for a defeat to Glynn/Barntown earlier in the season when they contest the All-Ireland Senior Ladies rounders final this weekend.
Excitement is building in Breaffy as their senior ladies’ rounders team look to win back-to-back All-Ireland titles this Sunday in Kinnegad, GAA Centre, Longford.
It has been quite the year for the club as all their three teams qualified for the semi-finals, the only team in Ireland to do so.
Unfortunately for the club, only the ladies team progressed to the All-Ireland final after coming through a brilliant semi-final contest against Bagenalstown of Carlow which was a repeat of last year’s final.
Although, there has been bumps in the road along the way, after losing their unbeaten record which spanned back to the start of the 2022 season, it never affected the team.
Breaffy have impressed throughout the season topping the group which consisted of eight teams from right around the country.
They started off the season from where they left off last year and started their campaign with a win against Limekiln of Dublin. This was a close encounter which was the start of things to come as all teams in the competition were closely matched.
The ladies in blue then racked up wins against Erne Eagles of Cavan and Adamstown of Wexford and with three games played they looked like they’d be the team to beat yet again.
They then travelled to Ballinagore where they played last years runners up Bagenalstown and ran out winners to secure a semi-final place with three games remaining, but what wasn’t known their final placings in the group.
Breaffy then had their first bump in the road where their long unbeaten run came to an end against Glynn/Barntown and would have to regroup quicky as they faced another tough encounter the week after against Cuchulainn.
Both teams shared the spoils with the match ending 7-7 leaving Breaffy knowing that a win in their last match would secure a top spot.
They overcame newcomers of Raheen of Wexford and booked their place against Bagenalstown in the semi-finals.
Clonguish GAA centre, Longford, was the venue for the semi-finals with Breaffy putting in an impressive performance to reach another final.
On Sunday, September 10, the Mayo side travel to Kinnegad in the hope of adding another title to their trophy cabinet.
Breaffy will be looking to secure their third ladies title ever but face tough competition in Glynn/Barntown who last won the title back in 2019.
Expect a tight battle on Sunday, but the Breaffy ladies will be hoping the bonfires will be lit in Mayo come Sunday afternoon.
