A member of the St Francis team that played in the FAI National League game against Mayo FC yesterday (Saturday) evening has family ties here in Mayo.

The mother of Rory Garvey is Eadaoin Moran, a native of Ballinrobe, and sporting prowess clearly runs in the family.

Rory’s grandfather Roddy Moran, played with the Mayo minor team that reached the 1961 All-Ireland final against Cork, while Roddy also won a county minor title with Ballinrobe GAA Club that same year, Mayo FC won their opening game of the FAI National League with a 1-0 win over St Francis.
