Oíche Mhór Cheoil in honour of Éadaoin

Èadaoin Ní Mhaicín is a renowned traditional and folk musician from Balla.

The Ivy Towers Hotel in Castlebar is the venue for an Oíche Mhór Cheoil agus Amhránaíochta on Thursday night next, November 28th, in honour of Èadaoin Ní Mhaicín. The show, which starts at 8pm, is being organised by Craobh an Phiarsaigh de Chonradh na Gaeilge in Castlebar.

Éadaoin is a traditional and folk musician from Balla and has composed a large repertoire of music in recent years. Her music has taken her all around the globe where she has graced stages in all the continents. She is a proficient performer on the fiddle, the harp and the piano and she has also been known to sing a song or two. Recently she has devoted a lot of her time to composing and her compositions have a wide following.

Her most recent composition, Resurrect, has just been released with her band Astra Bloc while in October she released New Dawn with LÉDA.

Éadaoin is a primary school teacher but, post-Covid, she bid adieu to the classroom to pursue her dream of performing music full time. By this stage she has played on stages from China to America, from Azerbaijan to Canada and throughout the continent of Europe. She has performed with Michael Flatley and Frankie Gavin. She played with Lord of the Dance and David Guiney’s Velocity on Broadway. She has entertained Prince Albert of Monaco and world renowned peacemaker, George Mitchell. She performs regularly at Áras an Uachtaráin and the Guinness Storehouse. And that is only the beginning.

Recently, Éadaoin hit the headlines when she joined the world renowned Corrs on stage at the Hydro in Glasgow. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Sharon Corr was unable to take the stage and, at very short notice, Éadaoin was asked to take her place. Although only having a few hours notice Éadaoin’s performance drew wide praise and she got significant coverage from the BBC, Radio 5, Scottish TV among other media outlets.

Éadaoin will be joined on stage in the Ivy Towers by Freda Nic Giolla Chatháin, Liam Mac Congáil and Paddy Ó hÉanacháin.

All are welcome at the Oíche Mhór Cheoil agus Amhránaíochta in the Ivy Towers and refreshments will be served. There is no entry fee.
