Western People Mayo Sports Stars Awards 2023 The time is upon us once again when nominations are being sought for the Western People Mayo Sports Stars Awards.
Who are the sportspeople or teams from Co Mayo who you believe soared to exceptional heights in 2023? We want you to tell us who should become the newest recipients of this most prestigious of sporting accolade – and why!
The Western People Mayo Sports Stars Awards have long recognised the sporting deeds of some truly great athletes and the annual gala banquet has been a highlight of Mayo’s sporting and social calendar for more than 50 years.

This year is set to be no different and the Western People is now inviting you the readers to forward those who you think have gone the extra mile, raised the bar, broken boundaries and scaled new heights in the sporting arena over the course of the past twelve months.
2023 was illuminated by Mayo people across a range of sports disciplines on local, national and international stages, and the Mayo Sports Stars Awards is the perfect opportunity to recognise that. So, if you know of an individual, a group or a team of Mayo sportspeople who performed exceptionally during the past twelve months, now is your chance to nominate them for these most prestigious awards.
Or perhaps you know of a coach or a mentor who has dedicated themselves endlessly to facilitating the success of others in their community.
Or maybe you know of someone worthy of consideration for the prestigious Young Sportsperson of the Year (under-18 on January 1, 2023), or Sports Personality of the Year, or the Hall of Fame award.
We want to hear what it is that sets your nominee apart from all the rest.
Nominations can be submitted for any sporting code, ranging from the mainstream to the niche; heroes from Gaelic football and soccer, rugby and basketball, athletics and boxing and every sport in between have been included amongst the ranks of Mayo Sports Stars recipients – and 2023 is expected to be no different.
The closing date for receipt of nominations is Friday, January 12, 2024.
The 2023 Western People Mayo Sports Stars Awards gala banquet will take place on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Breaffy House Resort.
